Instead, look for specifics:
Tested to what standard?
Tested by whom?
Using what test method?
Is documentation available?
There is a major difference between a marketing description and a measurable performance requirement. When you are sitting 20 feet above the ground, that difference matters.
Your Entire Tree Stand Fall Protection System Matters
A harness is only one part of your protection. Even a well-designed full-body hunting harness cannot compensate for an inadequate tether, tree strap, lifeline, connector, or attachment point. - Testing or compliance documentation
- Inspection and replacement guidance
- A manufacturer willing to answer technical questions
If you cannot find that information, ask for it.
A company manufacturing life-safety equipment should be comfortable explaining how its products were designed and tested.

More hunters wearing safety harnesses is a positive step for the hunting industry.
But the conversation should not end with:
“Are you wearing a harness?”
Hunters should also be asking:

Look for applicable ASTM testing. Look for independent third-party verification. Review the available documentation. Understand every component of the system you are trusting when you leave the ground. Because when something goes wrong 20 feet above the ground, confidence is not what arrests your fall.
